ESGI 111

University of Southern Denmark, Odense

17th to 21st of August, 2015

ESGI (European Study Group with Industry) is Europe's leading workshop bringing together academic mathematicians and industrial companies. These week-long workshops have been held annually since 1968 and were previously known as the Oxford Study Groups with Industry, where they attracted leading mathematicians to work on industrial problems. In Denmark these workshops are conducted alternately at DTU and at SDU.

Companies bring to the Study Group mathematical questions they would like to have solved, often in the form of a modelling problem or an optimization issue. The mathematicians work in groups around each problem, presenting at the end of the week to the companies the result of their efforts, and afterwards a written report.

Important facts

The fee for submission a problem is DKK 25.000.

There is no participation fee for academics and Ph.D. students.

Registration is done by email to Sanne Terp Nielsen

PhD Course

In connection with the study group, there is a Ph.D. course: Modern Methods in Industrial Mathematics. This 5 ECTS course includes participation in the study group, and begins four days before the 'regular' study group with lectures and course work.
